Your nature is divine. What happened along life's way was that delusion covered it up with dust. When your dirty laundry goes to the washerman, he doesn't make your clothes white. They are actually white to begin with; only dirt has hidden the whiteness. All he does is to bring out the brightness of the clothes. To do this, he needs two pure items - soap and water. He cannot manage without either of these. Similarly, in the case of the mind and the dirt covering its purity, there are two cleansing items needed - the soap of Principle and the water of Practice.

There is reaction, resound, and reflection for everything in this world. Only when you develop the quality of hatred in yourself do you see hatred in others. Whatever you do to others, you will surely experience the result of that action. Whatever you hear or experience is all due to the reaction, reflection, and resound of your own actions and feelings; others are not responsible for it. No one is responsible for either your good or bad actions. Neither is it God's creation, for God is attributeless, unsullied, eternal, pure, enlightened, and the embodiment of sacredness. Always help others, never hurt anyone. When you accuse or make fun of the other, it is an illusion to think that you are hurting the other person. In fact, you are hurting yourself. If you wish to enjoy good things in life, do good to others in the first instance.

Life is a jungle where there is a great deal of dry wood that harbors worms and insects. No one cleans the floor of the forest, or cuts away the undergrowth of bush and bramble. To wade through the thorns and the leech-ridden floor of the jungle, one has to wear boots. So too, one has to wear the boots of sense-regulation if one has to pass through the jungle of life without harming oneself. This is the lesson you must ponder over and practice.

When you have malaria, you have to take bitter quinine medicine. That is the medicine needed to cure the ailment. Likewise, when adversity confronts you, treat it as a medicine for your own good. Gold has to be melted and beaten to make a jewel. A diamond is cut to make it more brilliant. Likewise, troubles in life serve to refine a person. Love should enable you to welcome even hardships as meant for your own good.

Spiritual effort (sadhana) requires regular habits and moderation in food, sleep and exercise. The body, the mind and the spirit, all three must be equally looked after. Unless you have "muscles of iron and nerves of steel" you cannot contain in your head the adhwaitha (Oneness with the Universe) principle. To see Truth as Truth and untruth as untruth, clarity of vision and courage of vision are both needed. You have come into this world to enter the presence of Lokesha (Lord of the Universe). So, do not tarry in wayside inns, mistaking them to be the goal. The Lord will be longing for the arrival of the lost, He is like a cow yearning for its calf.

The Lord is sugar. You may drop it into tea or coffee or milk or water. Into whatever thing you put it, it will make it sweet. Sweetness is His nature, sweetness is his signature. If your tongue is bitter through hatred, envy and pride, you cannot feel any sweetness. Get rid of the illness and you can enjoy the sweetness that God really is!

Each person has a different conception of God and goodness, according to one's upbringing and the state of purification of their impulses. All conceptions are valid; when water is let out in fields, you will find sheets of different shapes - circular, rectangular, oval, square, according to the shape of the fields. Sanctify every word and deed by filling it with the Love and the Name of your favorite Lord. The gold of which an anklet was made can become the gold for a crown on the head of a temple image. Only it has to be melted in the crucible and beaten into shape. The waters of the river may not be pure, but the devotee who sips it with a Manthra or Sthothra (Sacred Prayers) on his lips, transmutes it into a sacred theertha (Holy Water). The body becomes healthy by exercise and work. The mind becomes healthy by remembrance and contemplation of the Lord through regular, well-planned discipline, carried out joyfully. This is the secret passage to win the Heart of the Lord, to realize Him quick and fast.

If you always repeat the idea of "mine", how can you be useful to others?... Sacrifice is the 'salt' of life; it is the secret of peace and joy... All the senses are self-centred, egoistic. They must be educated to be "inward-directed", towards the Atma which is Universal.
